Which Drop 8 USSSA Bat Is Best for You?
A drop 8 bat weighs 8 ounces less than its length in inches, so a 30-inch -8 weighs 22 ounces. That's 2 ounces heavier than a -10 at the same length. It's the bat for 13U, and for strong younger players getting ready for it.

Where a -8 Is Legal
Legal: USSSA 13U and under. A -8 is the lightest bat USSSA allows at 13U.
Not legal: most USSSA 14U events, which require BBCOR or wood.
USSSA bats carry the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp and are only legal in USSSA play. See our USSSA bat guide for every age group.

Three quick checks:
• Put the knob at the center of the chest and hold the bat out along the arm. The fingertips should reach the end of the barrel.
• Stand the bat next to the leg. The knob should reach the palm.
• Hold the bat straight out to the side for 30 seconds. If the player can't, it's too heavy.

Can a 14U player use a -8?
Not in most USSSA 14U events, which require BBCOR or wood.
