Composite vs Aluminum Bats: Which Is Best for You?
Short answer: aluminum alloy bats are ready to swing out of the wrapper, hold up in cold weather and usually cost less. Composite bats need a break-in period and can crack in the cold, and they usually have less sting on mishits.
In BBCOR and USA Baseball play, alloy and composite bats have to meet the same performance limit, so neither material is allowed to hit harder. Every StringKing bat is aluminum alloy.

Choose an Aluminum Bat If…
• You want a bat that's ready for the first pitch, with no break-in.
• You play early-season games in the cold.
• You want top performance without paying composite prices.

Choose a Composite Bat If…
• You'll take the time to break the bat in before games.
• You mostly play in warm weather.
• Less sting on mishits matters more to you than price.
We don't make composite bats.

Types of Baseball Bats
By material
Aluminum alloy. One metal tube. Ready to swing, durable in the cold, and usually the lowest price.
Composite. Carbon fiber and resin. Needs a break-in, and dampens vibration.
Hybrid. A composite handle joined to an alloy barrel, for some of both.
Wood. Used in pro baseball, and allowed in some youth events, like most USSSA 14U events.
By certification
The stamp matters more than the material. High school and college need a BBCOR bat. Travel ball 14U and under uses USSSA bats. Little League and most youth leagues need a USA Baseball bat. Every stamp comes in both alloy and composite.

Composite vs Aluminum Bat Questions
Do composite bats hit farther than aluminum bats?
Not in BBCOR or USA Baseball play. Both standards set the same performance limit for alloy and composite bats. Our Metal 2 and Metal 2 Pro BBCOR bats are rated .496 to .500, right at the .500 limit.
Do aluminum bats need to be broken in?
No. Alloy bats are ready to swing out of the wrapper. Composite bats need a few hundred hits.
Which lasts longer?
It depends on how and where you play. Alloy bats usually dent instead of cracking, and they hold up in cold weather. Every StringKing bat comes with a 1-year durability guarantee.
Are aluminum and alloy bats the same thing?
Yes. Metal bats are made from aluminum alloy, so you'll see them called aluminum, alloy or metal bats.
Why does StringKing make only alloy bats?
Alloy bats are ready to swing, durable and consistent, and they let us offer top performance at a lower price.
